Episode 005: Get Your Video Mojo On! Show Notes

More video!

We talk about video A LOT and we know that YOU get it. You should be creating video, a ton of it! So in this episode we’re going to help you get going.

WHO to video?

One of the biggest reasons most people don’t get started is the fear of getting behind the camera. The key is to just START doing it. An easy way to get started is doing an interview style where you just ask questions and have a conversation.

TIP: Get video releases on everyone you film (clients, staff, volunteers, donors) Here’s a template to get you started, but like we mention- please run any document through your legal team before use.

WHAT to video?

Brainstorm. A great exercise is to take a few key ideas and tape them to the wall and give everyone a pen/pencil. Have the group rotate through each idea and add to it. Go through this two-three times.

IDEAS: Volunteers, donors, or major donors. Make sure to find a way/place to continually add your ideas to work from at a later date. FAQ’s are great for videos, pick the top questions that you always get asked and make them into videos.

WHEN to video?

If you don’t schedule it, it’s not going to happen. Make a realistic goal and schedule it. The best leverage of your time is to block out time and film multiple videos at once. This allows you to stockpile content to use as needed.

WHERE to use videos?

Social media content, through email, on your website, video loops around your offices or in your partners offices, e-newsletter, in house for onboarding volunteers, tutorials on “how to” donate- start a fundraiser-etc.

TIP- A Facebook video will track viewers outside of Facebook so you can leverage this by sharing your Facebook videos on partners blogs, the E-newsletter, literally any views outside of Facebook can be tracked and leveraged through targeted paid Facebook advertising.

WHY video?

There is a marketing shift moving toward video. People want to do business and connect with PEOPLE and have a part in making an impact. They want to engage and get to know you and that you are REAL. Once you know WHO you are, your “tribe” will find you.

TIP: Model the nonprofits that are the big players in your field. How are they marketing? What types of videos are they doing? What types of posts are getting a lot of engagement on their page? These organizations have already spent money figuring out what works best, leverage that for yourself.

How to Shoot Video?

Use your smart phone, you don’t need fancy equipment. Get your photo/video release drafted and get shooting!
